typically with
sudo systemctl restart mastodon-*

to enter the repository and ensure variables are set correctly, assuming it was installed by the guide
sudo su - mastodon

bundle install --deployment --without development test
yarn install --pure-lockfile
RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rails db:migrate
RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rails assets:precompile

Here's the switch procedure for a bare metal install:
git remote add glitch https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon
git pull glitch master
if this completes without any merge conflicts [there shouldn't be any]
bundle install --deployment --without development test
yarn install --pure-lockfile
RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rails db:migrate
RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rails assets:precompile

@tina @janet are you using a docker or a bare metal install? it's easier to switch forks on bare metal

@tina @janet switching is pretty easy, you just do an update from the glitch repo instead of from vanilla

@tina You might want to look into the glitch-soc fork of mastodon, it has a complete advanced theme engine https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon
